So much going on in April! I’ll get to that in a second. First I need to catch you up on our trip to Washington, DC for the Craft Brewers Conference. Jon actually drove a keg of Yogi up there (1700 miles in fog, rain and snow!) for the Amber Waves event held at the District Architecture Center. It was very well attended and was a really fun, unique event. All the beers were amber in color but the similarities ended there. Each beer was amazingly different from chocolate IPAs to blended sours to a beer made with evergreen tips instead of hops. Yogi was well received by many, with employees of Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, and Stone Brewing stopping by to give sincere praise to our chai spice creation.
Anna’s artwork that currently adorns our tasting room was on display and got lots of smiles. The framed art is currently up for auction with proceeds going to the Fallen Heroes Fund. Bidding ends tomorrow (4/5).
Speaking of tomorrow, you should come out to our very first game night at the brewery. We’ll have our picnic tables set up. Just bring a game and a friend, we’ll provide the fresh craft beer! Get your ticket here.
Here’s a quick run down of our many other April events:
Whew! AND THEN you will want to save the date of May 11 for our first anniversary party. That’s right, a few weeks ago (March 26) marked the one year anniversary of our first beers hitting the market. Details and ticket info for the party will be forthcoming. The Pig Vicious food trailer will be back and there will be tons of beer, including new ones you have never tried and aged stuff (Holiday!). There will be a retro video game theme. We’re working on securing musical acts and we we will utilize a projector so you can play old video games on a giant screen!
This Saturday marks the return of Bella, our Belgian Golden Ale. Despite clocking in at 7.5%, it is remarkably sessionable. So watch out! It will debut this Saturday at the Big Texas Beer Fest in Dallas and in our tasting room at the brewery. Look for kegs around town starting Monday and bottles later in the week. The bottles will even be in some Houston Spec’s later next week (for the first time) along with our other beers.
Last but not least, we are excited to partner with the Austin ZEALOTS for the Rogness Brewing Pro-Am homebrew competition. Brew an ESB (BJCP cat. 8C) and have a chance to be entered in the 8th Annual Great American Beer Festival Pro-Am. Deadline: June 9. You MUST be a member of the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) from June through October. You can never have been an employee on the brewing staff of any brewery, and you can never have been an employee of Rogness Brewing in any capacity (GABF rules).
Bring your 2 bottles (11 to 16 ounce bottles) to the Austin ZEALOTS meeting on June 8, or take/mail them to Austin Homebrew Supply between June 1 & 9. (9129 Metric, Austin, TX, 78758) Entry fee $5. Please pay by cash in an envelope secured to your entries.
Hope to see you soon. As always, thanks for supporting local craft beer!
